✦ DEVOTIONAL SERENADE ✦
Soul-Stirring Bhajans & Awadhi Sehar
All night long for nine days to dawn, the ancient harmonics of Ayodhya fill with the devotional enchantment that this city is uniquely gifted to produce in such Bhakti-soaked Ram Navami performances. The all-night bhajan vigil — the Awadhi Sehar — is a cherished centuries-old tradition performed by hereditary Bhajan-singing families of Ayodhya.
Traditional women folk singing groups at Saraswati Kund perform Awadhi Sehar songs exclusively composed for Ram Navami — including the classic welcome song for infant Ram that dates to the Tulsidas era.
रामचंद्र कह गए सिया से ऐसा कलयुग आएगा — From the Awadhi Ram Navami folk tradition, Ayodhya, celebrated continuously since the medieval period.
Contemporary devotional artists including Padma Shri recipients and All India Radio classical musicians are invited during Ram Navami for performances ranging from Dhrupad and Khayal-based Ram compositions to folk Birha and Kajri adapted to Ram's glory, making the festival one of the most musically rich celebrations in the sacred calendar.
