Ram Vivah Mahotsav

Celebrated each year with unparalleled fervor across Ayodhya Dham and Janakpur, the Ram Vivah Mahotsav enshrines the sacred institution of familial duty, pure devotion, and righteous marriage.

In Vedic theology, the marriage of Shri Ram and Mata Sita is revered as a kaulachara sambandha — a bond forged across cosmic ages. The Valmiki Ramayana narrates that only Shri Ram, carrying the dignity of Raghuvansha and the blessings of Vishwamitra, could fulfil the divine condition set by Maharaj Janak.

Throughout Ayodhya and beyond, the Ram Vivah Mahotsav is a synthesis of Chhattis Vidhi (thirty-six ritual steps), melodious Vivah Geets reverberating from household to palace, and the Avadhi tradition's vivid expression of domestic bliss and regal splendor. Thousands of Ramlilas restage this event every Margashirsha, uniting communities in devotion.

Ram Katha — Eternal Principles of Vivah

Beyond the joy and festivity, the Ram Vivah encapsulates eternal Dharmic principles illuminating how the ideal human relationship flourishes from the bedrock of Shri Ram and Sita's life.

The Inviolable Vow of Grihastha Dharma

Unlike ordinary marriages, Shri Ram and Sita's wedding was a Swayamvara of dharma — the whole universe assented, devas rained flowers, and Rishis pronounced blessings with the authority of the Vedas. Their Grihastha Ashrama remains the ultimate embodiment of righteous household life marked by mutual respect, sacrifice, and ever-present devotion to duty. The Ramayana insists that a wife is not a possession but the very ardhaangini — the other half — of man's soul.

Maryada & Dharma

Maryada & Dharma

Ram's every action at the Vivah was bounded by Dharma. He neither rushed nor faltered but acted as the perfect son, student, and bridegroom — modeling for all time the highest conduct of a noble man entering household life.

Ananya Bhakti

Ananya Bhakti and Shraddha

Mata Sita's surrender was not of weakness but of supreme devotion — a chosen commitment, Ananya Bhakti — that she demonstrated by lifting the Shiva Dhanush as a child, thereby revealing her own divine equipoise and cosmic role.

Yaydri Harmony

Family Harmony and Vivaha Satva

The Ram Vivah forever enshrined harmony — not just between the couple but among all four brothers, both families, the assembled sages, devas, and even the natural world, which is the very standard of Vivaha Satva in Sanatan Dharma.

The Regal Story

The Regal Story on eternal Jivan

Understanding the Ram Vivah as a philosophical and social event, scholars across centuries have expounded how this sacred union elevated the status of women, sanctified the institution of marriage, and established devotion as the highest human quality.
